Stories

I'm trying out this google docs thing in order to let people viewing my blog read my stories. It's not as smooth  and user friendly, towards my readers that is, as embedding a document from, for example, Scribd, but I find it easier to understand so please bear with me.

Art

I'd quickly just like to showcase the kind of art I'm interested in and why

If you haven't seen the art of Alfons Mucha then you've been missing out. He was an Art Nouveau painter that became famous for his unique style and especially for his artwork depicting women

His beautifully detailed art has inspired me to develop my own unique style just as painstakingly executed. I'm still working on it...

Another artist I have greatly admired for a long time is illustrator Angela Barrett. Barrett is an extremely sought after illustrator. She has a distinct fairy tale quality to her work which sets her apart and above most illustrators.

Right: Cover of one of her illustrated books, Beauty and the Beast, my all time favourite classic:

If you have the time, check out her art. Her artwork is also very widely available at libraries or you can buy your own copy of one of her artbooks; it's entirely worth it especially in hard cover.

Another great artist's work to check out

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to Fragile Eternities where I will be showcasing profound/ beautiful art, stories, music and more that have inspired me or made an imprint on my life.

Unlike my other blog this will be a more serious take on the things I like and wish to share with others. If you're into something more fun and light hearted (or just plain silly) visit Tea and all things posh.

Today I will only be showcasing:
Profound book/story:
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Summary: Jane Eyre, orphan and unwanted niece is a quiet, thoughtful girl who, misunderstood and ill-treated by her aunt and cousins, is disgracefully sent away to a mismanaged boarding school. When she becomes a teacher herself she applies for the post of a governess to escape from the tedium of the boarding school. Her application is accepted and she is to be the governess of a petted girl whose guardian, Mr Rochester, hides a terrible secret that could destroy her first chance at happiness.
Read it for free on the web

 Quote from the book:
“If people were always kind and obedient to those who are cruel and unjust; the wicked people would have it all their own way: they would never feel afraid, and so they would never alter, but would grow worse and worse.”

Jane Eyre combines all of my favourite qualities of a story: mystery, romance, adventure, intelligent protagonist and a dash of something akin to a fairy tale, into one detailed and beautiful book.

It looks like it's going to become a movie soon(at least another adaptation). Jane Eyre will grace limited U.S. theaters on March 11, 2011. It stars Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) in the lead roles." Check out the trailer
